Kindle Versus iPad

Kindle Versus iPadKindle has become one hot brand in Amazon! Amazon has unveiled a touchscreen tablet com-puter in an attempt to pull the rug from beneath Apple and its iPad. The Kindle Fire, which has many similar functions, will be sold in the U.S. for $199 (£128), less than half the price of the cheapest iPad available.

The low cost stunned technology industry watchers, who suggested that Apple and other tablet manufacturers would have to cut their prices. Users will be able to access more than 18million movies, television programmes, songs, apps, games, books and magazines via the Amazon website.

The device has a seven-inch screen, compared with the iPad 2’s 9.7-inch display. And unlike the iPad, it will not have a camera or be able to make video calls.

Unveiling the tablet in New York, Amazon’s chief executive, Jeff Bezos, said: ‘Kindle Fire brings together all of the things we’ve been working on at Amazon for over 15 years into a single, fully-integrated service for customers.

‘These are premium products at non-premium prices. We are going to sell millions of these.’

The Kindle Fire will be available in the U.S. from November 15.

Although no date has been set for it to go on sale here, Britain will be getting the latest version of the basic Kindle, which is thinner and lighter than existing eReaders. It will cost £89 – but even this is a mark-up of almost 80 per cent compared to the U.S. There, the new version will cost $79 – about £50.

A company spokesman defended the pricing, saying that the new basic Kindle was the ‘most affordable’ ever. She added: ‘Operating costs differ by country, but as with all products on Amazon, we work hard to offer customers the lowest possible prices.’

But Professor Ajay Bhalla, a technology expert from Cass Business School in London, said: ‘Amazon has not got the pricing right. Consumers are smart and there is plenty of choice in this market.’ He doubted the Kindle Fire would pose a meaningful challenge to the iPad because of the absence of a camera.

‘Breaking Dawn’ Bella’s Not Looking So Good as Her Baby Bump Gets Bigger

Braking dawnFirst things first: Are you sitting down? Great, because we just got our hands on an exclusive new clip from "Breaking Dawn: Part 1," featuring Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart), Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), Carlisle Cullen (Peter Facinelli), and Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner).

The 15-second theatrical trailer preview opens with some familiar snippets: Bella finds out that she's pregnant, and the baby is quite the kicker.

The following scene is where the never-seen-before footage begins. We're back in Forks, Washington, and a worried Carlisle informs Bella that "the fetus is too strong and fast growing." Anyone who has read the "Breaking Dawn" novel knows what's coming next is not going to be a pretty sight, as evident in the quick cut to what the unusual pregnancy has done to Bella. In place of a mother-to-be glow, her complexion is pale and sickly, and the bags under her eyes indicate she's had very little rest since discovering she's pregnant. Edward tells Bella, "It's crushing you from the inside out." No wonder the poor girl looks completely miserable and distraught; that baby -- who's only getting bigger and bigger -- is literally killing her!

The Cullens aren't the only ones worried about Bella. Jacob and the rest of the wolfpack have found out that Bella's in trouble, and they're determined to rescue her from the vampires before she becomes one. "Get ready, we're coming for Bella," warns Jacob. But Edward isn't about to let the wolves take the mother of his unborn half-human, half-vampire child away that easily. "You're not going to touch her," he says. We hear werewolf growls and the clip ends with a standoff between the werewolves and the vampires. Once again, the fight over Bella continues.

Sony Shows Wearable 3-D Personal Theater

Sony wearable 3DSony is launching a head mounted display that provides a three dimensional theater of music videos, movies and games.

Sony Corp. showed the 60,000 yen ($800) "HMZ personal 3-D viewer" Wednesday. The machine is set to go on sale Nov. 11 in Japan, and is planned for the U.S. and Europe, perhaps in time for Christmas, although dates have not yet been set.

Resembling a futuristic visor, HMZ, which stands for "head mounted display," is worn like chunky goggles-and-earphones in one. The footage before the viewer — a music video of a Japanese singer in the demonstration for reporters in Tokyo — is crystal-clear and feels like peering into a dolls house in which a real-life tiny singer is moving.

Marilyn attracts smiles, scorn and skirt chasers

Marilyn MonroeA 26-foot-tall sculpture of Marilyn Monroe in her most famous pose was unveiled on Chicago's now-truly Magnificent Mile Friday morning.

The Marilyn Monroe that now stands tall on Michigan Avenue, her head high enough to see passing boats on the Chicago River, is fortunate to be all aluminum and stainless steel, unable to read the nasty things being written about her.

Passers-by wasted little time positioning themselves under her billowing skirt to get a subway-grate view of Monroe in the same stance as she appeared in "The Seven Year Itch."

The area is known for unusual public art displays. Years ago, Michigan Avenue was lined with fiberglass cows.

And in the same plaza where the Monroe statue now stands, another sculpture by the same artist, Seward Johnson, was put up: a tribute to the farmer and daughter of Grant Wood's "American Gothic" fame.

The Marilyn Monroe statue will stand until next spring.

First Look of Anne Hathaway as Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises

Anne Hathaway as CatwomanMeow! In The Dark Knight Rises, the next installment in the Batman franchise you can see Anne Hathaway as Catwoman , and here the first promo image of Anne Hathaway as Catwoman.

The 28-year-old actress joins veterans Christian Bale, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine in the Christopher Nolan-direction action flick.

"I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story," Nolan said in January.

Though Hathaway hasn't revealed much about her role ("I signed a blood oath," she says), the actress is looking forward to portraying the iconic D.C. Comics character.

"I want to be the best actress I can be and that means working with the best people and taking the most challenging roles," Hathaway tells Total Film. "That's the plan and so far it's led to some really exciting places."

Catwoman was first played by actress Julie Newmar (now 77) in the 1966 Batman TV series; Eartha Kitt took over the role in the show's third season. The feline vixen was last played by Michelle Pfeiffer in 1992's Batman Returns. (Halle Berry starred in the 2004 flop Catwoman; the heroine's alter-ego was renamed Patience Phillips.)

MTV doesn't Celebrate its 30th Birthday

MTVMTV bizarrely refused to celebrate its own 30th birthday, and just treated it like any other day.

"MTV as a brand doesn't age with our viewers," explained Nathaniel Brown, senior vice president of communications for MTV, who confirmed that there were no plans for an on-air MTV celebration. "We are really focused on our current viewers, and our feeling was that our anniversary wasn't something that would be meaningful to them, many of whom weren't even alive in 1981."

While the point is is well taken, it doesn't seem like MTV has much issue with NINETIES nostalgia (as evidenced by the network's recent "120 Minutes" and "Beavis & Butt-Head" revivals). So even a tribute to MTV's later shows ("Club MTV," "Headbanger's Ball,"

"Yo! MTV Raps," "Unplugged," "The Week In Music" with the impeccably smarmy Kurt Loder) could have provided enough fodder for a month-long celebration of MTV's genuine importance in youth culture (and would have been a welcome reminder that the "M" in "MTV" used to stand for "music").

Ben Affleck with Bieber Hairstyle?

Ben Affleck While stars like Channing Tatum and Matt Damon are shaving their heads, Ben Affleck is at the other end of the spectrum: He's growing out his hair.

The actor stepped out in Santa Monica, Calif. on Monday sporting a shaggy new 'do that channeled a certain 17-year-old multi-platinum pop star.

But for those wondering if the actor has a case of Bieber Fever (he does have two daughters after all), they'll be relieved to know that his straighter, longer locks can be attributed to a movie role.

The 38-year-old actor, who has rocked a cleaned-up crew in the past, has been skipping the routine haircuts for his new film Agro -- a thriller in which he's starring, directing, and co-producing.

Apple to Launch iPhone 5

iPhone5Apple is planning to release an iPhone 5 as early as September. The model is likely to include a faster computer chip and a more advanced camera.

The company is also reported to be testing a version of the iPad with a higher resolution screen. The release of the iPhone 5 in just a few months could add millions more sales to the technology firm’s range of smartphones. The iPhone is Apple’s top seller.

When the iPhone 4 was launched in June last year, stocks ran out within hours and demand crashed the Apple website. Technology experts are also adding a cheaper version of the iPhone range which will be aimed at boosting its market share in developing countries.

The new phone could be called the iPhone 4G or 4S, with many similarities to the £500 iPhone 4. An 8-megapixel camera would be an update on the 5-megapixel camera currently used in the iPhone 4.

But the speedier processor will allow programs to load quicker and the phone will be able to better compete against the BlackBerry and Samsung handsets that use Google’s Android software.

The new tablet has a dual-core processor, dual surround-sound speakers and front- and rear-facing cameras. There will be 16GB and 32GB versions.

Samsung's new smartphone, the Galaxy S II, is the successor to the Galaxy S, one of the most popular high-end Android smartphones, which sold over 10 million units globally.

One of the most distinctive upgrades seen in the new Android 2.3 handset is the 4.27-inch 800 x 480 Super AMOLED Plus display, while there is also a 1GHz dual-core processor, front- and rear-facing cameras and free turn-by-turn navigation powered by Navigon. The device is just 8.5mm thin.

James Bond will return in 2012

James Bond 2012James Bond will return to the big screen in November 2012. The reasons for the delay have to do with a lot of boring corporate restructuring business, but what really matters is that Daniel Craig will play Bond again.

He is the lone reason anyone still cares about the Bond franchise which appeared dead at the beginning of the decade.

The exact date for the film's release will be November 9, 2012, and it's impressive that they have a release date considering they don't have a cast outside of Craig. Sam Mendes, whose directorial star has dimmed since he was initially signed on for this project, will direct, and the script is apparently in place and has in fact been ready for about two years.

We hope they update it: We wouldn't want it to include lines like "Yes, Bond, you'll survive my trap only when a black man is elected President. You're doomed!"

49-Year-Old Woman Huge Fan of Twilight: Tattoo All Over Her Back

TwilightShe went to a tattoo parlor with the £2,000 she’d saved up and endured 22 hours under the needle to get the ink that will show her appreciation for the Twilight universe, she tells the Daily Mail. She is Cathy Ward from the UK may be 49.

The tattoo spreads all over her back and features images seen in posters promoting various installments of the franchise. It includes all three main characters, Bella, Edward and Jacob, some of them more than once.

Mrs. Ward says she got the tattoo because her Twilight obsession has helped her lose weight, thus have a healthier and considerably better life. She no longer spends money on food, but on Twilight-related stuff – like this tattoo.

The piece, as noted above, has Edward three times, and Bella twice. Jake is only shown once. And Mrs. Ward doesn’t plan on stopping here with her Edward obsession – clearly, there can be no doubt left about whether she’s Team Edward or Team Jake.

Demi Moore Posts Bikini Pictures on Twitter

When Demi Moore photographed herself in the mirror looking stunning in a skimpy bikini, the temptation to share was too much to resist. Then what she did next is to posts her sexy bikini pictures into her twitter account.

She posted her bathroom self-portraits for all to see - not the sort of behaviour one would expect for a woman of 47, but perhaps excusable when you take a look at the results. She appears in better shape than she did in her 30s, when she was famously caught displaying cellulite while jogging along a beach in Florida.

But online, where a mobile phone lets you become your own photographer, looking your best seems considerably easier.

Mother-of-three Miss Moore has been working hard on her health in recent months, undertaking a strict detox plan with 32-year-old husband Ashton Kutcher.

Coming Soon: Touchable 3D TV technology

3D TVA Japanese research team said it had developed the world's first 3D television system that allows users to touch, pinch or poke images floating in front of them.

"It is the first time that you can feel images in the air," said Norio Nakamura, senior scientist with the research team at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology.

"You can have the sense of touch like poking a rubber ball or stretching a sticky rice cake" when manipulating images, he told AFP by telephone.

The technology changes the shape of three-dimensional images in response to "touches", aided by cameras that monitor how the fingers move, Nakamura said.

It is not known when the technology will be put to practical use but its creators see it being used to simulate surgical operations and in video game software allowing players to experience the sensation of holding weapons or sports equipment.

Barrymore: Twitter is not for me

Actress Drew Barrymore has no interest in Twitter and says she has no plans to join the micro blogging site.

She feels people should only use Twitter if they are funny and that she is an "old fashioned girl" when it comes to technology, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

"I know I am an anomaly, I know everyone else is in love with it, but it's not for me. I like people who use it for comedy to make people laugh," said Barrymore.

"If people are making other people laugh and making jokes then that's awesome. I believe I am quite an old-fashioned girl."

Taylor Lautner has a new leading lady!

Taylor LautnerThe hunky Twilight actor has reportedly hooked up with actress Lily Collins — his costar in new movie Abduction. Lily, 21, apparently asked Taylor, 18, out on a date after being impressed with his sexy abs.

“Lily told pals that she wasn’t looking to fall in love, but soon realized she had strong romantic feelings,” a source told American tabloid the National Enquirer.

The source went on to tell the tabloid that Lautner was "smitten" with her from the beginning, but she was in relationship with a stuntman. After resisting his affection initially, she was swept away with feelings for Lautner.

‘When the boyfriend got suspicious because Lily didn’t return calls promptly, he hopped a plane and turned up unannounced to confront her.”

Zac Efron Visits Strip Club – After Getting Vanessa Hudgens's Permission

Zac EfronZac Efron reportedly spent more than $2,000 on lap dancers and vodka at a New York strip club. But before he was able to head to the club, Efron, 22, had important business to take care of first: calling girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens.

The actor and two male friends - including his 'High School Musical' co-star Corbin Bleu - visited Flashdancers Gentlemen's Club on Broadway.

The 'Charlie St. Cloud' star - who has been dating actress Vanessa Hudgens since 2005 - is said to have requested dances from three pretty brunettes.

A witness at the club told the New York Post newspaper: "Zac came in Sunday night around midnight with Corbin and one other male friend, who paid for everything. They were seated in the VIP lounge behind the main stage. There was only a rail between them and the girls who were dancing.

Milo Ventimiglia Left Red Faced with Hayden Panettiere's Surprise Birthday Striptease

Milo Ventimiglia and Hayden PanettiereGoing stronger with their love relationship despite their age difference, Milo Ventimiglia got a special birthday surprise from his actress girlfriend Hayden Panettiere. The actress, singer, and Grammy-Award nominee performed a surprise striptease for him on his 31st birthday.

She reportedly asked "the wardrobe girls to make her a Velcro lined version of the outfit she wears" on the hit TV series "Heroes" in which she portrays the character of self-healing cheerleader Claire Bennett. Morphing from her bouncy cheerleader character in the series to a bump-and-grind striptease, she then sang 'Happy Birthday' to Milo in front of cast and crew during lunch while at the same time also "ripped off the costume to show off her sexy red lingerie."
