‘Rambo 5’ with Sylvester Stallone Greenlit

Rambo 5Not long ago, Sylvester Stallone promised that the fourth “Rambo” would be his last, just like “Rocky Balboa” was the last “Rocky” film. At one point, the star even hinted that making another movie of the type would be too physically challenging for him, and suggested that he would stick only to directing and writing scripts. Whether Stallone realized he still had it in him to make another “Rambo” film or not, the bottom line is that he is to start working on it this spring, as Variety can confirm.

The fifth film will see Rambo return to his special missions, with Stallone attached as the main star and director. No mention has yet been made on whether he will also pen the script, but, given that he wrote all of them so far, one can presume that is not really that far-fetched, industry insiders say. Fans also have something else to put their hopes in, namely Stallone’s promise that he would try to take the upcoming “Rambo” in a slightly different direction than the previous films in the series.

“Nu Image/Millennium Films has greenlit the franchise’s fifth installment, with Sylvester Stallone starring and directing, repeating his duties from 2008’s ‘Rambo.’ The upcoming project’s storyline revolves around Rambo fighting his way through human traffickers and drug lords to rescue a young girl abducted near the U.S.-Mexico border. Production will start in the spring. The film will be produced by Avi Lerner, Kevin King Templeton and John Thompson. Danny Dimbort, Trevor Short and Boaz Davidson will exec produce.” Variety writes of the upcoming project.

Nu Image/Millennium Films is also handling Stallone’s most recent (and much-hyped) project, “The Expendables,” which sees him as the leader of a group of mercenaries on a suicide mission to overthrow an evil dictator in a remote location. The film, also starring Jet Li, Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke, Danny Trejo, Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger, is billed as the only production to ever assemble this stellar cast of action-movie actors. “The Expendables” is currently in post-production.

No word yet on an upcoming “Rocky” film as well. However, for more details on the fifth “Rambo” or speculation of a new “Rocky,” keep an eye on this space and we will keep you up-to-date with everything.
